Himalayan Youth Outdoors

Himalayan Youth Outdoors Program is a state grant funded by Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO). It is a part of the No Child Left Inside grant (20-2257). The objective of the program is to give opportunities to children to explore outdoors.

“No child can truly know or value the outdoors if the natural world remains unknown or under glass, seen only through lenses, screens or computer monitors.”

Why Kids Need to Spend Time in Nature

Many researchers agree that kids who play outside are happier, better at paying attention and less anxious than kids who spend more time indoors.

Nature-Specific Outdoor Learning

HYO explores the outcome of nature-specific outdoor learning and its benefits for personal and social development, wellbeing and academic progress.

Ideas for Engaging Kids with Nature

HYO organizes various outdoor activities and also facilitate ideas for parents and kids to enjoy outdoor activities

Connect with Nature and Community

HYO not only encourages youths to connect with nature but also creates an opportunity to connect with the community.

No Child Left Inside

The No Child Left Inside (NCLI) Act was reintroduced Thursday, April 7, 2022. The legislation was authored by Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) and Rep. John Sarbanes (D-MD) to expand and strengthen hands-on, environmental and outdoor learning opportunities for elementary and secondary school students around the country.

Himalayan Youth Outdoors (HYO) Team engages in connecting every child and youth in our community with the nature and help in battling “nature deficit disorder.”
